Mobile responsiveness was the highest-scoring category in our 50 SaaS landing page study. Average score: 81.5/100. Failure rate: 2.5%. Only a single page scored below 70.
This is the good news story in our data. After years of "mobile-first" being preached at every conference, the SaaS industry has largely delivered. Modern frameworks, responsive CSS, and ubiquitous mobile testing have made basic mobile compatibility the default rather than the exception.
This article exists not to tell you mobile matters — you know that — but to cover the edge cases that still cause problems and the optimization layer that separates "works on mobile" from "converts on mobile."
Why Mobile Is Mostly Solved
The reason is straightforward: the tools got better.
Tailwind CSS, modern component libraries, and frameworks like Next.js ship with responsive behavior out of the box. A developer building a landing page in 2026 gets mobile responsiveness almost for free — they have to actively break it rather than actively build it.
Additionally, design tools like Figma include mobile viewport previews as a standard workflow step. Designers who create desktop-only mockups are increasingly rare because the tools make responsive thinking the path of least resistance.
The result: 97.5% of SaaS landing pages in our study work on mobile. Layouts adapt, text is readable, buttons are tappable, and content reflows appropriately. This is a genuine industry achievement worth acknowledging.
The 2.5% That Still Fail
The lone page that scored below 70 on mobile had a specific problem: content that was structurally inaccessible on mobile devices. Slack's pricing page scored 25 overall, with mobile being a key failure point — the complex pricing grid that works on desktop becomes nearly unusable on a phone screen.
Pricing tables are, in fact, the most common mobile failure pattern across the broader web. A four-column comparison table that looks clean on a 1440px screen becomes an unreadable compressed mess on a 375px phone. The responsive behavior technically works (the table shrinks), but the experience breaks because the information design wasn't rethought for the medium.
We also observed mobile issues in the eight pages that timed out. While we couldn't complete full mobile assessments for these, the JavaScript-heavy rendering that caused timeouts on our fast connection would cause even worse experiences on mobile networks.
"Works on Mobile" vs. "Converts on Mobile"
Here's where the nuance lives. A page can score 80+ on mobile responsiveness while still converting poorly on mobile devices. Responsiveness means the layout works. Conversion means the experience is optimized for how mobile visitors actually behave.
Mobile visitors behave differently from desktop visitors in ways that matter for conversion:
Shorter attention spans. Mobile sessions tend to be shorter. Visitors are scanning, not reading. If your page requires scrolling through five sections to reach the CTA, mobile visitors are more likely to drop off before getting there.
Thumb-driven interaction. Buttons need to be sized and positioned for thumbs, not mouse cursors. A CTA that sits at the top of the screen on mobile — requiring a reach to the far end of the device — is technically accessible but ergonomically awkward. The most effective mobile CTAs sit in the natural thumb zone or use sticky positioning to remain accessible during scrolling.
Different context. A desktop visitor might be at work, comparing tools methodically. A mobile visitor might be on a commute, quickly checking something a colleague mentioned. The level of commitment they're ready to make is different, which means the optimal CTA might differ between devices.
Form friction multiplied. Every form field that's mildly annoying on desktop becomes significantly annoying on mobile. Typing on a phone keyboard is slower, autocorrect interferes, and switching between fields requires more precision. A five-field form that has acceptable completion rates on desktop might see dramatic drop-off on mobile.
The Mobile Optimization Checklist
If your page scores above 75 on mobile responsiveness (and statistically, it probably does), the optimization opportunity is in these conversion-specific elements:
CTA placement and sizing. Is your primary CTA visible without scrolling on a phone? Is it large enough to tap comfortably? Does it appear again after key content sections? The best mobile pages use a sticky CTA bar or repeat the button after each major section.
Content prioritization. Mobile doesn't need to show everything the desktop page shows. Consider which content blocks are essential for the mobile conversion path and which can be collapsed behind expandable sections. A "Features" section with six expanded cards on desktop might work better as an accordion on mobile.
Form simplification. If your form has more than three fields on mobile, question each one. Can you collect the additional information after the initial conversion? Mobile form completion rates drop steeply with each additional field.
Touch targets. Buttons, links, and interactive elements should have a minimum touch target of 44x44 pixels with adequate spacing between them. Tappable elements that are too close together cause frustrated mis-taps — a small UX annoyance that compounds into abandonment.
Image optimization for mobile. Serve smaller image files to mobile devices. A hero image that's 1200px wide on desktop doesn't need to be downloaded at full resolution on a 375px screen. Responsive images (srcset attribute) solve this with minimal development effort.
When Mobile Becomes Critical
For most B2B SaaS, desktop still drives the majority of conversions. Visitors research on mobile but convert on desktop. If your analytics confirm this pattern, mobile optimization is important but not your highest-leverage activity.
However, for products targeting consumers, SMBs, or mobile-native workflows (scheduling tools, messaging, expense tracking), mobile traffic often exceeds desktop. In these cases, mobile conversion optimization becomes your primary concern.
Check your analytics to understand your split before investing optimization effort. A page where 80% of traffic is desktop has different priorities than one where 60% is mobile.
The Bottom Line
Mobile is mostly a solved problem for SaaS in 2026. If your page is built with modern tools and frameworks, you're probably fine on the responsiveness front.
The real opportunity is in the gap between "mobile-compatible" and "mobile-optimized" — particularly around CTA placement, form simplification, and content prioritization. These changes won't show up dramatically in a responsiveness score, but they'll show up in your mobile conversion rate.
